I have been designing a system of terrain tiles for wargaming; I have completed the physical engineering aspects of the tiles but now need some designs for the terrain pieces which will sit on top.

Spec:

The wargaming system I'm designing for bases all it's sizes in inches, which isn't ideal for 3D modeling, usually done in mm. For the purpose of this project any references to inches should be taken as being 25.4mm eg 3" = 76.2mm.

Each tile will be have a surface of 12"x12", 16 tiles can then be composed into the minimum size game board. The tiles are 1/2" deep, but half of that is used for the interlock mechanism; leaving a max depth for the surface of 1/4" (This is more important when we come onto more interesting tiles which may feature things like craters which cut into this depth) A tile can be thinner than this (minimum depth: 2mm) as the base can be built up further to support it.

Each terrain tile must have a flat bottom to make it easy for me to combine it onto the base piece.

Contest:

This contest is to design a very basic textured tile I can use for printing some prototypes and for basing future designs on top of.

A key requirement is that the design tiles seemlessly in all directions and orientations such that the tiles can be set out in any order and produce a good result.

I'm fairly open on the specifics of the design; but I'm looking for something such as a grassy field, scrubland or desert texture. Assuming the site allows for this, I may pick multiple winners if there are several suitable textures.

Submission:

All submissions must contain all files required for doing further work on top of the tile eg adding a road, they must also come in a suitable format for importing into blender (my tool of choice for building the tile base). The tile is going to be 3D printed so the texture must be a physical geometry, not an image. I have plans in the future to sell these tiles, so any free files you use in crafting them must allow for commercial use.

The first entry wasn't really what I was looking for, so he are some examples.

A good shot of the basic product is at 24 seconds into the video; this is what inspired this project and gives a good idea of what I want to achieve after further phases of this project.

Hi check my entry #17 . I have done desert canyon terrain,lot of variations of grasslands and everst hills terrain and river channel with blunt hills and mountains with lake around it you can see all these things in my entry #17 make sure to see all the submitted images in #17 . I can also provide a lot more variations of different terrain and also I will teach you how to do this work.

can we have any idea for the area covered by a 12"X12" SINGLE TILE in compare to real world so the terrain results look physically correct,

  If you see the image I added to the post, it shows a model (horses for a chariot) on a 2" x 4" base, a man sized model is approximately 32mm high. Does that help?

  Plan is to 3D print it and then I'll probably use an air brush to put a base coat and shade on it followed by a highlight or two using a paint brush.

  Hi, I'm using an ender 5 plus for printing the prototypes, might switch to a resin printer for speed & quality in the future. The models I'm using are about 32mm tall for a man sized model, though I expect the tiles to be used for a range of scales on that vicinity. Dimensions for the tiles are in the contest post.

  Hi, you don't need to worry too much about the interlock mechanism; it is in the bottom half of the tile which I have already built a prototype of. Your work will be placed on top of the bottom half to form the complete piece for printing

  I hope so, yes. This first contest is to help me finish the prototype of the tile and sort out the engineering aspects assuming everything works out well with that; there will be further work to design more interesting tiles such as roads and rivers
