Phelps Dunbar LLP is a growing and dynamic AmLaw 200 full-service law firm. We are seeking a Copywriter to join the Marketing and Business Development team. Reporting to the Director of Marketing, the Copywriter will be responsible for creating B2B marketing content for press releases, the website, social media, publications, directories and surveys. The ideal candidate must have exceptional writing skills, be able to manage multiple projects at once and work well as part of a team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
Convert legal and policy issues into readable and memorable messages for our key audiences
Work closely with lawyers on writing projects
Research topics to ensure accuracy and deliver messages consistent with marketplace trends
Draft, edit and proof content for the website, social media, marketing collateral, and other market-facing alerts and updates, including bios, experience, and news summaries
Deliver clean, concise, and engaging copy consistent with firm messaging
Edit your and others writing for AP style and readability
Collaborate with team to find multiple touchpoints for lawyer created content
Maintain a comprehensive calendar of survey, directory and award submission due dates for the firm, its various practice areas, and its attorneys
Draft responses to various surveys, rankings and directories, including managing the related information gathering process
Support press outreach and build relationships with media contacts across our footprint
Assist the marketing and business development team with other projects as needed
Education and Experience Required:
BA in Journalism or Communications or a related field plus 5-7 years of experience at a law firm, professional services and/or agency handling similar B2B communications and duties
Qualifications and Skills Required:
Legal experience preferred, B2B writing experience a plus
Exceptional writing and proofreading skills with a passion for developing content
Knowledge of AP style
Excellent communicator. Uses clear and concise language and can translate creative ideas into actionable plans
Organized with high level attention to detail and excellent verbal/written communication
Ability to work independently and as a team, and interact with all levels of staff, attorneys, firm management, and clients
Thrives in a fast-paced environment with the ability to multi-task, prioritize to meet required deadlines, and deliver superb final product
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook
Proficient in social media (LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, etc.)
