I need a map of Jacaranda trees (Minosifolia) across Greater Sydney and some analysis of these locations as a useable GIS data set with layers of analysis and a number of PDF maps as outlined below:
I already have a ZIP file containing the following GIS files and this will be provided:
1. Boundaries of Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Greater Sydney (outer boundary of study)
2. Green spaces in Greater Sydney layer. This should be exported to shp layer already, if not the WMS file to export to shp is here ([login to view URL]).
3. Urban vegetation and heat island layers.
4. Location of jacaranda trees in one LGA.
1. Location of all jacaranda trees across greater Sydney.
OPTION A - FULL PROJECT: Determine these locations with satillite imagery of the first week of November in any given year when the jacaranda trees are clearly purple from satilite images (see attached Nearmap screenshot - 2012 seems to have been particularly clear) and enter these spot locations. The LGA that have provided these locations already (4 above) can be used as a base for quality control. If this is possible, proceed to 2. below for all of Greater Sydney.
OPTION B - STEPPING STONE ONE: One LGA was able to provide me with the locations and attributes (4 above) but I need for all of greater Sydney. If the above analysis cannot be done, the only option I have is to get the data for each LGA from their GIS team. In this case, proceed to 2 below for only the LGA with tree locations already provided.
2. Run the following analysis:
A. Identify key areas where there are green spaces without many jacarandas close AND correlate this with areas of low urban vegetation cover and a high heat island effect. In other words, where are there lots of green spaces with few jacarandas, few other trees and it is hot. Export PDF maps at a scale so there are 6-8 pdfs covering the greater sydney area or one pdf map for the LGA only if only Option B is possible.
B. Identify clusters of jacarandas - where there is a high density of jacarandas (please use common sense judgement for this - I am looking for where it would be noticable from the street that there are lots of jacarandas on a walkable scale so maybe where each tree is within 25m of the other and there are 20 trees or more). Export PDF maps at a scale so there are 6-8 pdfs covering the greater sydney area or one pdf map for the LGA with data if only Option B is possible.
C. Identify density of spot jacaranda locations within the boundary of each LGA (or just the LGA in question if only Option B possible) as trees per Km2. Export the excel ranking these LGAs by jacaranda trees per Km2.
I estimate OPTION A will take 10 hours, OPTION B will take 5 hours.
Please let me know if you can do OPTION A, this is preferable but I am unsure whether it is possible. Limiting factors would be your expertise and access to reliable satellite imagery (such as Nearmaps).
