The background: I'm a music producer, and I use a DAW called Cubase. I also use a hardware synth called Korg Kronos. Lastly, there's a software company called Sound Quest that makes a VST called MIDI Quest (MQ).
MQ's function is to interface between Cubase and the Kronos synth. I'm supposed to be able to instantiate the MQ VST on a Cubase MIDI track, and then use the VST to control the Kronos. This way I don't have to use the small screen on the synth...I can instead use a larger display on my computer screen. And the VST will remember my changes to any of the synth programs.
However, the Kronos will allow only ONE device to use its MIDI port at any one time. And since Cubase is already using the Kronos MIDI port, MQ cannot also use it. The maker of the software tells me I need to set up a virtual MIDI port by using LoopBe or MIDI-OX. I have both of those, but cannot figure out how to configure either of them to allow me to bypass the Kronos' restriction to one MIDI port user at a time.
So the project is to help me get this set up. I won't consider the project complete until the MQ VST is fully functional in my studio, by which I mean it is functioning as an interface between Cubase and the Kronos. We may have to set up a Facetime call, or Zoom meeting.
