We are a service company providing (among others) data conversion services for our various clients.
We receive on a daily basis Microsoft Excel (.csv) files containing data series via FTP. These data files are stored in various client-specific folders following a defined naming convention.
The following steps have to be executed:
1. Formally check the receipt and content of the files required
a. In case a file is missing or otherwise corrupt, send email alert to sender and our responsible person
2. Open file by file (e.g. with MS Excel) and transform the content according to the following rules (max. of three rules)
a. Check each value against a set of data values provided in a corresponding MS Excel table
b. Correct values violating rules accordingly
c. Correct values according to certain simple formulas
3. Create an MS Excel output file (different format, less content) and store in individual folders following a defined naming convention
4. Send created files to individual recipients via FTP / email (list provided)
a. In case whatever error occurs during the above steps, the resulting file has to be stored but may not be sent to the final recipients.
5. Document any action step including success / failure in a log-file
6. Archive log-file and only transmit to our responsible person in case of any failure
