[login to view URL] - it's hard to bring humour to a mental health charity, but that's what I'd like to do, to attract followers to our social media campaigns. There are so many funny stories about incidents involving mental health - funny, ludicrous, maddening, frustrating - the ways the "system" deals with mental health issues can the laughable in their absurdity. I am looking for an artist who can draw some great cartoon images to illustrate this.
I have some great stories to tell - I'd like to find someone who can make them into images.
Woman walks into Hamleys Toy Shop in Regent Street London; she is unkempt, in her 60's. Employee gives her a shopping basket on her way in, and says "put what you want into this basket". So she walks around the shop filling it with toys. At the exit she's stopped by security guard: "You haven't paid for those madam" - she replies "Of course I haven't, I don't have any money - I was given this basket and told to fill it". Rather than recognising this very obvious case of mental illness, and suggesting the items are returned, the Security guard calls in the police, resulting in unnecessary use of police resources, costs of Court time and public defence lawyer, and then NHS mental health facilities. Completely bonkers, but could be made into a funny sketch to illustrate the "insanity" of the system - more insane than the sufferers.
BUT - we are a fairly new charity without much money as yet - we are working hard on our fundraising, but until we are more flush, we aren't able to pay much.
Hopefully this could become a regular thing, and increase the profile of our Social Media - and once more money comes in, we would be able to pay more for these images.
