Tweak Server Backup Script

Job Description:

My server is a VPS hosted by Contabo.com.

The VPS runs Virtualmin/Webmin.

I used to backup this server to my local machine, a Mac running Big Sur, using this command:

rsync -avrz --progress --delete --force --exclude "/dev/" --exclude "/proc/" --exclude "/run/" --exclude "/sys/" --exclude "/tmp/**" --exclude "cart" --exclude "/mail" --exclude ".gz" --exclude ".tar" --exclude "*.zip" --rsync-path="sudo rsync" -e 'ssh -p 2610' admin@[login to view URL]:/ Server-Whole-Latest/

The command worked fine, but the destination folder got bloated with extra files for some reason.

So I hired a contractor to tweak the script and he came up with this:

That works quite well, but there are a couple of limitations.

1. The script stops running after a certain time, giving the error message:

client_loop: send disconnect: Broken pipe

rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (4401386723 bytes received so far) [receiver]

rsync: writefd_unbuffered failed to write 4092 bytes [generator]: Broken pipe (32)

rsync error: unexplained error (code 255) at /AppleInternal/BuildRoot/Library/Caches/[login to view URL](1122) [generator=2.6.9]

So I tried to edit the file that disconnects the stream, but it's a Mac system file and my Mac won't let me save the edit.

I need someone who can edit the backup script to copy the server without interruption, the way the first script used to.

2. This issue is minor.  The first script only used to ask me for my remote server password, but the new script prompts me for my Mac password is well.  I want that gone.
