Mac Contacts iCloud integration challenge

Job Description:
I am trying to resolve duplicate contacts and groups naming issues that are auto appearing on my iCloud account. I have tidied up the names via the iCloud contacts online interface. This tidied up / synced the groups on my devices. I then ran a merge multiple contacts on my Mac. The Mac contacts looks fine but the online version now has a different number of contacts compared to my Mac plus half of the group names changed from : Friends to ''Friends'' in speech marks, see attached screen grab with and without speech marks. The ''Groups'' then were auto updated on all devices. The main Mac contacts that I made the merger in still looks good. I have a copy of the .abbu file exported from Mac Contacts and would like this to be uploaded to iCloud.
