VOLUNTEER: Business Plan - Social Sustainable Housing for At-Risk Youth

We are looking for volunteers to write a thorough and professional business plan, but on a short deadline, so 4-6 people would be ideal to work on this to accomplish this goal.

Knowledge, background or interest in the following areas would be an asset:

* Canadian non-profit organisations

* Homelessness in Canada

* Green Building (Passivhaus); Sustainability and Social Sustainable concepts

* Renewable Energy (Solar, BioGas, etc.)

* Urban Gardening, Permaculture, Aquaponics

* Conservation (Water & Waste Reclamation)

* Building Construction & Renovations

We intend to build a social sustainable home for At-Risk youth. I have a house in Pickering, Ontario. Canada. It was built in 81', so it's a fixer-upper in need of some attention.

I want to renovate this house with social sustainable concepts at its core, turning this house into a cooperative home for homeless youth, emphasizing community and sustainable living.

Phase one: Housing - Social sustainable concepts include:

- Passivhaus (Zero Energy Home) design

- Energy Generation & Storage: Solar panels; solar water heaters; solar stirling engine; water cooling; hot water heating

- Storm water collection

- Water & Waste Reclamation

- Greenhouse in front and Backyard for year round Organic food production and vertical urban gardening

- Aquaponics Organic food production

- Microliving interior design

We believe everyone should....

...have a quality of life that inspires them to share it with others. In a world of overabundance, thousands struggle to survive. How do we bear the shame of putting profit above people, and the interest of the few above the many?

...have an equal and affordable standard of living. This includes a home to live in, a nutritious and sustainable food source, and the means and security to maintain it. The silent struggle of everyday people is deafening as they fight to get through another week, month, and year. How do we justify blind obedience to a system advocating consumerism in the face of poverty, homelessness, and hunger?

...have healthy food, free of pollutants, chemicals, preservatives, and genetic modification. At what point do the risks outweigh the benefits? I presume there's a reason why we can't walk into a grocery store and buy cannabis cereal and meth pastries? Our food is dressed up to look and taste great, but the poison inside them still kills, just a lot slower: Heart disease, diabetes, obesity, mental illness, and birth defects, to name a few. As if life wasn't short enough, do we need big business to peddle their junk to feed their bottom line?

Social, Economic, and Environmental poverty affects us all.

We believe Social Sustainable Housing will empower communities to focus on the community as a whole, and provide practical solutions to important issues.

No one, least of all youth, should experience the struggles and fear of homelessness and hunger. Everyone has the right to the basics in life, and everyone should be given the opportunity to a better quality of life.

Our mission is to create a foundation for sustainable change. By creating sustainable housing and supporting our communities, we'll secure the future for a better tomorrow!
