We are working with a hospital and have a 3D model of a human eye orbit, reconstructed from 2D CT slides. The reconstruction is OK, but due to the weak CT signals around the nose region, the resulting 3D model still contains holes inside.
The current algorithm reads around 250 slides in DICOM format from a folder and then do a thresholding to change them to binary images. Then we crop out the region of interest (ROI) of the eye orbit area to obtain files of smaller areas. These files are then stacked up and store into a 3D array, and reconstructed using MATLAB’s isosurface and patch functions. Finally the output is saved as a .STL file for 3D printing later on.
We have tried imclose(), imfill() and activecontour() etc. to fix the problem but the result is not good.
We want to hire a software engineer who can completely resolve this problem by using automatic, software algorithm methods to fill the holes. The resulting model must be hole-free and reasonably smooth to preserve most of the detail of the inner wall as far as possible. The development platform is MATLAB 2017a and the source code is available once the software engineer starts to work. The allowed working time is one calendar week. Anyone interested please provide information about your past working experience on 3D model and MATLAB. We prefer to have some pictures or 3D models of your past work.
