I’m running a VB 6 desktop application that gathers data from several websites, parses through and extract various items and saves it to a plain text file. I’ve got it set up so that Windows launches it M-F at 7:30 AM CST, and the application turns itself off at 7:30 PM. This is the period I need to gather the data. I’d like to know if this process can be automated to run entirely on my website. The asp code would have to do the following: [url removed, login to view] and stop the process at the above mentioned times. [url removed, login to view] to specified web pages and pull the source html. [url removed, login to view] the html and extract certain items of data. [url removed, login to view] data are saved in multidimensional arrays [url removed, login to view] and append the data to a text file. Steps 2-5 are repeated every 60 seconds and I have all the code written in VB to handle it, so the coder would just need to convert this into asp/vb script I don’t know if this can be totally automated based on what I’ve read here [url removed, login to view] The site is hosted with a commercial web host, so using Window scheduling is not an option and the traffic cannot be depended on to trigger the code. If you know of any other alternative, please advise. If no other alternative is available then I’d like the code to just be triggered when the page loads and I’ll schedule a desktop application to load the page to start the process. Note that if this is the method used, the asp code would still need to automatically and continuously cycle through steps 2-5 every 60 seconds and then stop at a predetermined time. 2/3 All the comments received from the coders indicate that fully automation is not possible, so please bid based on the design that the asp code will be loaded once per day to start the process. Again, be aware that this a a commercial host and registering COM components, or anything other than uploaded a webpage is not an option.
