Coder will improve the enclosed Truetype symbol typeface, which contains 160 meteorological symbols. It contains a number of known problems. 1. SMALL SCALES. Coder will improve the glyphs so that they render properly at smaller (non-hinted) scales. A problem is shown in the attached .gif example when 12 pt symbols are mixed with 12 pt Tahoma. It can be seen that the symbols are extremely thin, producing poor screen and print output. Coder will fix this to make symbols bolder. This is only a problem with glyphs in the ALT+0071 to ALT+0190 range. 2. HINTING. Hinting (very small scales) seems to produce good results and is not a serious concern. However hinting performance is important and coder should ensure that any changes made do not adversely affect hinted performance. 3. SCALING. Coder will scale any glyph that appears unusually small (such as the infinity symbol shown at the top right of the example .gif). In other words, all glyphs should have the same approximate size as one another and should use the available space most efficiently. 4. CONFIGURATION. It is very important that the coder draw upon his/her knowledge of type design to look for poor configuration of the font. All glyphs occupy character codes ALT+0040 to ALT+0199. The coder will inform the buyer of problems, misconfigurations, or poor settings that exist and suggest actions that need to be taken to improve the font. For example I noticed some problems last year with corrupted glyphs when loading it into TypeTool, so coder should investigate what might be causing this. The typeface also seems to not fall into proper margin areas when seen in font viewers. I am not a typeface expert so I don't know what might be happening. Buyer will allow the coder to credit himself/herself in the typeface information as "Optimized by __(real name)__", and the coder may list his/her website. All rights will remain with the buyer. Project is delivered when (1) all the problems above have been corrected (2) and I am able to load the typeface into TypeTool with no corruption.
1) Complete and fully-functional Truetype typeface containing all work done.
2) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement).
