I'm a novice Ruby programmer that would like some help with a project redesign.
This will be a Rails site. I started using Sinatra but I decided I want access to all of the Rails plugins if I decide to use them.
VERY IMPORTANT. I'll be working on this project with you (using git) so I'm hiring someone that is willing to coach me a bit and is willing to explain code to me. I don't want to steal your work but I really love programming and I'd like to get better.
I'm currently running a marketing site for people who sell Nu Skin products (it's a network marketing thing). The site is not affiliated with Nu Skin but it offers a service to Nu Skin distributors.
People sign up and are able to choose a subdomain. This becomes their personal site to use for marketing.
I'm redesigning the site and would like to add a bunch of new features.
Things I'd like to accomplish...
- First and foremost I want to decouple the underlying site platform so I can market it to other businesses with distributors and customize it for their needs.
- An email address for people that sign up. This requires setting up an email server (probably postfix) and all the spam filtering stuff.
- Users will have a back end interface where they can customize things like...
? ? - account details
? ? - pick different themes for their site (you don't have to make the themes)
- The back end will also have marketing functionality where users can enter email addresses for people they want to market to. They need to be able to send pre-made marketing emails from this interface as well as put people on an auto send schedule where they will receive marketing emails at regular intervals (we can run this with cron). I'd like to do similar marketing things with SMS messages, twitter, and Facebook too.
The front side of the site is mostly static pages (uses AJAX but that doesn't count). There will be a contact page though where visitors can send email to the site owner through a form.
Also visitors should be able to sign up to receive marketing emails/text and add as Facebook friend/follow on Twitter.
