You have been provided with a data set of mean daily temperatures and daily energy consumption for the space heating and cooling plant of a building for a 16 month period.
At some point in the monitoring period changes were made in the system operation that resulted in significant energy savings. Your task is to identify as accurately as possible when these measures were taken and to quantify the savings in energy, carbon and monitory terms. This will involve determining the building base temperature(s) and assessing the performance of both the heating and the cooling operation. You should also speculate on what measures were taken to give such an impact to energy use.
The building is serviced by a variable refrigerant flow reverse cycle heat pump system, and is therefore all-electric.
The report should not be less than 2000 words with appropriate graphs and tables demonstrating the approach. It should be formally structured, with appendices where necessary, and fully referenced where appropriate. Do not supply print outs of all your data analysis – samples will be enough.
