Before Covid19 the Bangladesh community in our area functioned on close, informal interactions between people and businesses which have been blown apart by lockdown. We don't know anyone who had not been affected by either illness or grief from the virus itself or economic hardship. Our community already faced poverty and that has been hugely exacerbated by the crisis as the income sources for families, particularly from the restaurant trade have disappeared overnight and are not returning to viable levels. In particular homelessness has become a signi cant feature with workers now sleeping rough or on restaurant oors as a result of the unemployment. As well as unemployment, health problems and poverty, older people who were part of tight knit social groups are now isolated at home and scared. Many young people are left without a focus, drifting towards negative in uences such as drugs and violence. Our community needs business support, education, and social engagement work.
I have a few more projects that need funding like my food project. We are doing overseas work and we want to do more.
