Erosions are problems in agricultural areas caused by excess water from intense rains, storms that cause runoff, a fact that occurs when the soil is no longer able to support the growing volume of water. The geological factor affects a small part when compared to the region's rainfall.
Some erroneous agricultural practices can also aggravate degradation, such as: no terracing, no maintenance or poor topographic positioning of the terraces, planting sense not respecting the level of the ground, uneven grating, lack or no vegetation cover, non-adoption of the system of no-tillage and soil type.
The agricultural terrace is a mechanical erosion control practice where artificial structures are used, generally formed by portions of land properly disposed in relation to the slope of the land, in order to parcel the ramp, enabling the reduction of the speed and volume of water and its infiltration into the soil (level), or to discipline its flow to the stable bed of natural drainage.
